eCopy ShareScan: Removing Java / ApacheTomcat

Is it possible to remove the Java or Apache Tomcat components from eCopy ShareScan?

Answer

The Java and Tomcat components in eCopy ShareScan are required for the proper functioning of the WebClient and other software. The WebClient powers:

• Web browser-based ShareScan clients
• The Simulator inside the Administration Console

Important Prerequisite Check

DO NOT uninstall Java or Apache Tomcat if your fleet contains any of the following devices:

• Fuji-Xerox
• FujiFilm
• HP
• Konica-Minolta
• Xerox

If your environment includes any of the above devices, stop here - removing these components will break device connectivity.

Removal Procedure

Step 0: Create a VM Snapshot

Before making any changes, create a VM snapshot of the server for rollback purposes.

Step 1: Remove the eCopy ShareScan WebClient Component

• Open Programs and Features (Start Menu → Run → appwiz.cpl).
• Locate eCopy ShareScan WebClient.

WARNING: Do NOT remove eCopy ShareScan 2026.3 Web Components or eCopy ShareScan 6.x Web Components, doing so will damage the eCopy ShareScan installation!

• Right-click and select Uninstall.
• Click Yes in the uninstallation confirmation dialog.
• Verify that the component is no longer listed in Programs and Features.

Step 2: Remove the Apache Tomcat Component

• Open Programs and Features (Start Menu → Run → appwiz.cpl).
• Locate Apache Tomcat
  • v2026.3 Apache Tomcat 10.1 (remove only)
  • v2025.3 Apache Tomcat 10.1 (remove only)
  • v6.3 - v6.7 Apache Tomcat 9 (remove only)
  • You can confirm it's the correct entry by checking the footer/comments section: "Customized for eCopy ShareScan by TungstenAutomation, Corp."
• Right-click and select Uninstall.
• Click Yes in the uninstallation confirmation dialog.
• Verify that the component is no longer listed in Programs and Features.

Step 3: Remove the Java Component

• Open Programs and Features (Start Menu → Run → appwiz.cpl).
• Locate Amazon Corretto
  • v2026.3 Amazon Corretto 17 Runtime (x64) 
  • v2025.3 Amazon Corretto 17 Runtime (x64) 
  • v6.3 - v6.7 Amazon Corretto Runtime (remove only)
  • You can confirm it's the correct entry by checking the footer/comments section: "Customized for eCopy ShareScan by TungstenAutomation, Corp."
• Right-click and select Uninstall.
• Click Yes in the uninstallation confirmation dialog.
• Verify that the component is no longer listed in Programs and Features.

Step 4: Enable Alternate (Windows-based) Simulator

By default, the Simulator relies on Tomcat. After removing Tomcat, you must enable the Windows-based Simulator as an alternative.

Tip: This step is also useful if you want to toggle between the two simulators for demonstration purposes.

Procedure:

• Back up the Registry (best practice for disaster recovery).
• Open Registry Editor (regedit).
• Create a new DWORD value named UseScanStationClientAsSimulator under the appropriate registry path based on your ShareScan version:
• Change the DWORD TomcatInstalled to "0"

ShareScan v2025.3 + 2026.3 and later:

• HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Tungsten\ShareScan\UseScanStationClientAsSimulator

ShareScan v6.7 and later:

• HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Tungsten\ShareScan\UseScanStationClientAsSimulator

ShareScan v6.2 – v6.6:

• HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Kofax\ShareScan\UseScanStationClientAsSimulator

ShareScan older than v6.2:

• HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Nuance\ShareScan\UseScanStationClientAsSimulator

Set the value of UseScanStationClientAsSimulator to 1.
