ShareScan without installing Apache Tomcat or Alternate Simulator

Information:

There may be cases where the use of Apache Tomcat on the eCopy ShareScan server is not desired.  This can also be used to toggle between the two different Simulators for demonstration purposes, for example.

When and how is the installation of Apache Tomcat optional?

With ShareScan 6.3, 6.2, 6.1, 5.4, 5.2 and 5.1 the installation of Apache Tomcat is optional for non-web based devices.

When ShareScan is installed without the web client, the simulator will automatically switch from a web based simulator to a new windows based simulator.

If Apache Tomcat is uninstalled after initial installation, the Simulator setting must be manually changed through the registry.  See below.

To set the simulator to the windows simulator

ShareScan v6.3 or above:

1. Back up Registry (this is best practice, for disaster recovery purposes)

2. Open Regedit
3. Create a new DWORD
   • (on 32-bit systems) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Kofax\ShareScan\UseScanStationAsSimulator
   • (on 64-bit systems) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Wow6432Node\Kofax\ShareScan\UseScanStationAsSimulator )
4. Set the value of this key as "1"

Earlier version than ShareScan v6.3:

4. Set the value of this key as "1"

Please note that the sample images for the two Simulators are stored in different locations, as follows:

Windows Simulator:

• C:\ProgramData\Kofax\ShareScan\ScanStation Client\SampleImages

          Web Simulator:

• C:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax\Tomcat9.0\webapps\ShareScan\WEB-INF\test

Earlier version than ShareScan v6.3:

• C:\ProgramData\Nuance\ShareScan\ScanStation Client\SampleImages

          Web Simulator:

• C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\Tomcat 7.0\webapps\ShareScan\WEB-INF\test

Note: The Program Files Directory may vary depending on the Operating System
