PSIcapture Upgrade Process for In Place Upgrades

Upgrading an existing PSIcapture Installation

In order to Upgrade PSIcapture from versions less than 7.9.0.x, please ensure that your Server environment meets the Technical Specifications, as outlined here:  

Additionally, please be aware that PSIcapture 7.10 deprecated and fully removed some Direct Migrations.  If you rely on these migrations, they will no longer be available, so please review the list from our Release Notes / Changes in Behavior:

Once you confirm your Server is supported, you can proceed with the Upgrade Process.

First, download the required PSIcapture installer files:

Once those are downloaded, open Windows Services panel and locate and stop "Capture Services".

Once the services are stopped, open File Explorer and navigate to the hidden/system directory of C:\ProgramData.

Make a backup of the entire "PSIGEN" folder.  This can be in the same ProgramData location with a different name, or copied out to another folder, share, NAS location, etc.

Once you have a backup of the PSIGEN directory, uninstall your current version of PSIcapture.

Install PSIcapture , making sure the installer file is unblocked, and Run as Administrator. On the Capture Server, you will likely need to ensure you install the License Server utility as well.
Once is installed, you do not need to uninstall PSIcapture anymore.
 
Proceed by installing PSIcapture , and then .
 
Once is installed, you can proceed to install 2025.2, and lastly, 2025.2.2.
 
Please keep in mind that starting with PSIcapture 7.9.0 the OCR engine has been replaced with OmniPage.  This is different than the previous RecoStar engine, so once the system is fully upgraded you may need to review Capture Profiles and make minor adjustments to zones or RegEx match expressions due to the way the OCR engines behave.
